Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a powerful tool for improving learning because it encourages students to address real-world issues through a process of self-discovery. The following paper offer some principles for generating successful PBL assignments, showing how PBL standards can be applied to problem generation, implementation and evaluation in multidisciplinary projects. By involving students in the process of developing innovative medical therapies and equipment that meet clinical needs, PBL allows biomedical engineering faculty to combine fundamental engineering concepts in the disease’s context. Problem-Based Learning (PBA) is grounded on the idea that knowledge is best grasped and retained when it is delivered in a real-world environment.

Keywords: problem-based learning; teaching strategies; biomedical education.
