A família como elemento significativo no tratamento do paciente com transtornos mentais: uma abordagem a partir do Serviço Social

O presente artigo irá tratar da temática das relações familiares e do transtorno mental. Será dada ênfase na transformação do modelo tradicional do cuidado e tratamento dos indivíduos com transtornos mentais a partir da participação ativa da família. Acredita-se que este novo modelo possa contribuir para a superação do problema. Assim, será discutida a importância do fortalecimento na relação paciente-família dentro da nova concepção após a reforma psiquiátrica, no que se refere ao suporte familiar. Este estudo é baseado em um levantamento bibliográfico a respeito do assunto. São apresentados conceitos, definições, classificações e apontamentos de caráter histórico, sociológico e jurídico pertinentes ao tema. Pode-se, desta formar, verificar que a família do portador de transtorno mental exerce um papel essencial na construção de uma nova trajetória para seu ente enfermo, ao mesmo tempo em que é o núcleo de suporte fundamental do indivíduo. Torna-se, portanto, necessária a participação ativa da família, não somente no tratamento, mas, principalmente, no processo de recuperação do portador de transtorno mental.

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to discuss the family relationships and mental disorder issue. It will be emphasized the transformation of the traditional care and treatment model of individuals with mental disorders from the active participation of the family. It is believed that this new model can contribute to overcome the problem. Thus, it will be discussed the importance of strengthening the patient-family relationship within the new conception  after the psychiatric reform, regarding family support. This study is based on a bibliographic research on the topic. Concepts, definitions, classifications and notes of historical, sociological and legal characteristics relevant to the theme are presented. In this way, it can be verified that the family of a person with mental disorder plays an essential role in the construction of a new path for their ill relative, at the same time that they are the core of fundamental support for the individual. Thus, it becomes necessary the family’s active participation, not only  during the treatment, but, mainly, during the recovery process of the individual with mental disorder.
